How to Set Shopify Bundle Pricing That Protects Your Margin

Three products priced at 34, 28 and 22 dollars combining into a 72 dollar bundle that still keeps most of the margin.

Shopify bundle pricing decides whether a bundle earns its place or simply hands margin to customers who would have bought both products anyway. A good bundle sells products that are genuinely used together, at a price that still clears a margin floor you set in advance. This guide works through choosing the products, calculating the price, sizing the discount, handling stock and returns, and measuring the result.

Which products belong in a Shopify bundle?

Products belong in a bundle when customers already use them together, or need them together to get the result they bought the first product for. Your order history is the best evidence: look for pairs that appear in the same order, or in a second order placed soon after the first. A cleanser and a moisturiser, a camera and a spare battery, or a dog harness and a matching lead are bundles customers have effectively assembled for you. The bundle simply saves them the work of finding the second item.

Be wary of bundles built to clear slow stock. Attaching an item nobody asks for to a bestseller can make the whole offer look less useful, and customers notice when one component feels like filler. Check margin before composition, too: a bundle anchored on a low-margin product has little room for any discount at all. Start with one or two bundles around your strongest pairs rather than a bundle for every product, because each bundle you add is another price, another stock dependency and another result to read.

  • Products bought in the same order
  • Products bought soon after one another
  • Components that each carry a healthy margin on their own

How do I calculate Shopify bundle pricing from cost?

Calculate Shopify bundle pricing upwards from cost. Add the landed cost of every item in the bundle, the cost of packing and shipping one order, the payment fee on that order and a margin floor: the smallest contribution per order you will accept once those costs are paid. That total is the lowest price the bundle can carry. The combined list price of the items is the highest. Every sensible price, and therefore every bundle discount, sits between those two numbers, and you should know both before you choose.

A worked example makes the limits concrete. Take a cleanser listed at 30 with a landed cost of 9 and a moisturiser listed at 20 with a landed cost of 6, in whatever currency the store sells. Product cost is 15. Allow 7 for fulfilment and payment on a single order and set a margin floor of 18. The lowest acceptable price is 40, so the deepest discount the bundle can carry is 10 off a combined list price of 50, or 20 percent. A 25 percent offer would be priced at 37.50 and fall below the floor before any advertising cost is counted.

  • Landed cost of every component
  • Fulfilment and payment cost of one order
  • Margin floor: the least you accept per order

How large should a bundle discount be?

A bundle discount should be the smallest one that changes what customers do, not the largest the margin allows. The discount only pays for itself on orders that would not otherwise have contained both products. A customer who was going to buy the pair anyway now pays less for the same order, so every such order costs you the full discount. The customers who add the second product because of the offer are the ones who create new margin, and what they need is a reason to act, not necessarily a deep cut.

Value can be offered without money off. A bundle that solves a complete problem, saves a second shipping charge, adds a small useful item or arrives ready to give as a gift often sells at or near full price. Where you do discount, a fixed amount is easier to grasp on a two-item bundle, while a percentage scales more sensibly across larger sets. Zyberon’s AI Bundle Builder works in the pricing mode you choose (AI-priced, full price, a percentage off, a fixed amount off or a fixed price, with endings such as .95), and every bundle stays a draft until you publish it, so the margin floor remains your decision.

How do bundles change stock, shipping and returns?

A bundle depends on the stock of every component, so it is only as available as its scarcest item. If the moisturiser sells out, the bundle has to stop selling or switch to a planned alternative, otherwise orders arrive that cannot be fulfilled in full. Check how your bundle setup tracks inventory: some methods draw stock from the component products directly, while a bundle listed as a product with stock of its own can keep selling items that are already gone. Add the expected bundle sales to the reorder plan for each component, not only to the bundle.

Shipping and returns need a decision before launch. A heavier or bulkier parcel can move the order into a different shipping band, and that cost belongs in the price calculation above. Returns are the case most stores forget. If a customer returns one item from a discounted bundle, decide in advance whether the refund is that item’s share of the bundle price or its full list price, and write the rule into the returns policy. Refunding the full list price means the customer keeps the remaining item at a price you never offered.

  • Bundle availability follows its scarcest component
  • Parcel weight and size against your shipping bands
  • A written rule for refunding part of a bundle

How do I know whether a bundle raised average order value?

Judge a bundle on contribution per order, with average order value as the supporting signal. Average order value can rise simply because customers who would have bought both products now buy them as a bundle at a lower price, which grows the bundle’s share of orders while the store keeps less. So compare a fair period before and after launch, or products with and without the offer, and read three numbers together: average order value, the share of orders that include the bundle and the margin each order kept after product, shipping and payment costs.

Give the bundle long enough to separate a real change from ordinary variation, and keep other things stable while you watch: a sitewide sale or a new campaign running at the same time will blur the result. Zyberon’s AI Profit Calculator subtracts product costs, shipping and payment fees from real Shopify orders, and Data Tracking records what visitors did on the store, so you can check whether the margin you planned is the margin the orders kept. If contribution per order fell while average order value rose, reduce the discount or rebuild the offer before promoting it further.

What should I do with a bundle that does not sell?

A bundle that does not sell is telling you something about the pairing, the price or the presentation, and each has a different fix. Check presentation first, because it is the cheapest to change: customers may simply not see the offer, or see it without understanding what the set does for them. If visitors do see the bundle and still choose the single product, the pairing may be weaker than the order data suggested, or the saving may not be clear enough to justify a larger purchase.

Change one thing at a time and give each change a fair period, as you would with any other test. If a clearer presentation and a modest price adjustment both fail, retire the bundle rather than deepening the discount until it sells. A bundle sold below its margin floor is not a success; it is a discount with extra packaging. Record what you tried, because the next round of Shopify bundle pricing is easier when you know which pairings your customers ignored and why.

How this compares to the tools you are weighing

Shopify Bundles

What it does well
Shopify Bundles is Shopify’s own app for fixed bundles and multipacks, created inside the admin, with inventory tracked against the component products.
Where it stops
It builds the bundle you specify. Choosing which products belong together, what discount the margin can carry and how the offer is presented remains the merchant’s work.
What Zyberon does instead
Zyberon’s AI Bundle Builder drafts the offer ladder, copy and price around the products you choose, in your brand voice and within the pricing mode you set, and nothing reaches your store until you publish it.

Rebuy

What it does well
Rebuy is a personalisation platform for Shopify that places product recommendations, upsells and cross-sells across product pages, the cart and post-purchase steps.
Where it stops
Putting an offer in front of the right shopper does not settle whether the offer is priced to keep a margin. The discount and the cost checks still sit with the team.
What Zyberon does instead
Zyberon pairs the bundle draft with the AI Profit Calculator, which costs real orders at the item level, so the margin a bundle actually kept can be read from the orders it produced.

Questions this raises

Should a Shopify bundle always be cheaper than buying the items separately?

No. Many bundles sell well at full price because they save the customer time, a second shipping charge or the risk of choosing the wrong companion product. Offer money off only when the evidence shows customers need it before they buy the set.

What is a margin floor?

It is the smallest contribution per order you will accept after product, fulfilment and payment costs. Setting it before you choose a price turns the discount into a calculation rather than a guess, and it marks the point at which an offer is no longer worth running.

Should a bundle price end in .99 or .95?

Use the price ending the rest of your store already uses, so the bundle looks like part of the same catalogue. The ending matters far less than whether the price clears your margin floor and the saving is easy to understand.

How many bundles should a store run at once?

Start with one or two built around your strongest product pairs. Each bundle adds a price to maintain, a stock dependency and a result to read. Add more once the first ones have shown what your customers respond to.
